Tomorrow my husband and I will have the pleasure of witnessing what an evening at the Biltmore Estate was like when the Vanderbilt family resided there. The house will be lighted as it once was with candles and there will be ballroom dancers and choral groups throughout for our entertainment. I'm excited to take this step back in history and create some special holiday memories.
Since moving to Asheville, NC two years ago we have visited the Biltmore Estate on more than one occasion. We often take our grandson who refers to the estate as the Big House. He is five and dances through the halls and rooms with the wonder and anticipation that children exude. His favorite garden is the one with floating flowers and big fish swimming about.
George Vanderbilt had a dream and that dream is now available to all of us who would like to imagine what it was like to live in the largest family owned mansion in the country. It's nice to be a small part of the legacy left behind. We live in special times when the world of technology brings us beauty and cheer from around the world. Perhaps you have seen the Utube "Christmas Food Court Flash Mob, Hallelujah Chorus performance" that took place on November 13, 2010. It's quite magnificent and if you do nothing more than view this video to set the tone for the season, I suggest that you watch it as many times as it takes to put a big smile on your face.
More to come on the Christmas at the Biltmore Estate, where history is re-enacted for the pleasure of all who want to glimse this piece of history. I can hardly wait. I know it's going to make me smile endlessly.
