The idea of smiling into adversity intriques me. It actually lifts my spirits when I am embroiled in some inner angst and for just a moment I allow the corners of my mouth to lift. Often this hint of a smile is followed by a shaking of my head back and forth in a no gesture, as my mouth lifts a bit more. Very soon the negative emotional static begins to clear and my smile comes into full bloom.
Growing up with a strong religious code of ethics is both a blessing and a curse. As a child I was schooled by the good Sisters, in the art of self examination (of conscience). Conscience becomes guilt very rapidly when young and tender children are asked to sort out concepts that most adults struggle with. This can mess up their ability to accept and love themselves for a lifetime.
I have set myself on the path of self appreciation and it is a slippery slope. My over active critical mind is driven by the fear of being wrong, bad or just not good enough. I have successfully progressed to the art of loving myself even when I get triggered by my history. Ten years ago I began to study the Emotional Freedom Tapping Techniques (EFT). My inner world is clearer and brighter because of this wonderful finger tapping tool.
EFT employs stimulating the body by tapping on the face and body in order to break up the conjestion of thoughts that are repeating and repeating randomly for no useful reason. While there is still much to learn about this letting go process, we are indeed winning the emotional freedom fight. To those who know how, I say keep tapping it works! To those who don't know, you can learn... everything EFT is found extensively on the internet, including my web site (see below).
Now that's worth a smile, a sparkle, and brighter smile that lights up your face. So what happened to that critical mind that beats me up when I should be sleeping? gone to sleep. Smile.
